A leading global pet care organization is looking for a Renal & Urinary Research Scientist to join their innovative team focused on developing nutritional solutions for pet health. The ideal candidate has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and experience in research and development within a corporate environment. This position offers the opportunity to work in a diverse, pet-friendly campus located in Occitanie, France.

At Royal Canin R&D, the Research Team is responsible for the long‑term innovation (4+ years). It consists of science and technology experts that deliver solutions into new or improved products, processes and services that enhance the health and wellbeing of every cat and dog and bring competitive advantage to Royal Canin. The team values a broad expertise and the diversity of scientific backgrounds.
The purpose of this role in the Core Health Research Team is to identify innovative solutions in both the Renal and Urinary (nutritional products, services, diagnostics, or functional complements) territories for sick pets and to communicate relevant scientific/technological findings to key business and external audiences.
Doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent) preferred
MSc or PhD (preferred) where the person has developed an area of expertise in line with nutrition, veterinary science, animal science and/or animal physiology.
Post Doc or initial experience of 2 years of Research & Development in a corporate environment is a plus.
Fluency in English both verbal & written.
To screen potential solutions, build and manage approved research projects within the research program.
Being responsible for the full execution of research projects including idea generation, protocol set up, external research contracting, ethical review, regulatory checks, budget and protocol follow up using processes in place within the Research team.
Engage with the Core Health Research team to generate and demonstrate new research hypothesis.
Engage with the Predictive Research Team for the use of tools that can optimize the design and outcomes of clinical studies.
Engage with the Pet Professionals and PSR Demand teams to align ideas and projects with the support of the Research Senior Scientist.
Support the Design team regarding the scientific evaluation of new diagnostic tools, devices, and other service solutions for the wellbeing of cats and dogs in the field of research.
At the same time, engage potential collaborations between Waltham and different Mars Petcare Units as appropriate (Mars Veterinary Health group, Science & Diagnostics division) relevant to the Core Health Research team.
To communicate relevant scientific/technological findings to key business and external audiences through written works and oral presentation.
Being responsible for final internal reporting, external scientific communication, peer‑reviewed publication, and support for patent filing as needed.
To deliver innovative solutions implementable in Royal Canin product & service portfolio.
Being responsible for the transfer of the solution to the Develop team and propose best route of implementation into the product.
You will work in a multicultural environment (more than 40 nationalities) and where your dog will be welcomed by more than 100 other Associates’ dogs at the office!
You will work in a unique campus, which gathers more than 800 Associates working for: the international HQ, the French subsidiary, two laboratories, a kennel and a cattery with more than 200 cats & dogs, and finally the most important factory of the Royal Canin group.
Since 2015, no waste to landfill is made by the 16 Royal Canin factories in the world.
All Royal Canin products manufactured in Europe are ISO 14001 certified from design to factory gate.
