A leading global engineering consultancy in Madrid is searching for a Senior Principal Airfield Engineer. The successful candidate will oversee airfield design projects, manage client requirements, and ensure successful project execution. Candidates must have strong experience in airfield engineering design, excellent CAD skills, and proficiency in English. Additional languages are a plus. Formación

About the business unit

We help conceive, drive and implement transport solutions for cities, regions and asset owners/operators worldwide. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues—such as revenue procurement and environmental legislation—to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the full project cycle, and we play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze geotechnical and soil investigation information and request necessary tests.
  • Undertake geometric and grading design of runways, taxiways, aprons, service roads, etc.
  • Design storm‑water drainage and water‑management systems for airports.
  • Oversee the production of Civil 3D designs of civil works and infrastructure, and 3‑D models for airfield projects.
  • Prepare specifications for civil works.
  • Prepare feasible, logical and efficient work‑phasing proposals to carry out construction works.
  • Undertake civil works design and design reviews covering all stages of design.
  • Support engagement and management of subconsultants.
  • Support preparation of tender documentation and client support during procurement processes for airfield civil works.
  • Support preparation of methodologies, design proposals, resource estimation, etc. for bids.
  • Travel occasionally at short notice.
More senior roles will be expected to:
  • Lead visits to airfields in the UK and overseas, monitor construction works and produce progress reports.
  • Provide leadership and line‑management support to senior and airfield engineers in their development of airfield designs for airports worldwide.
Candidate specification
  • Experience in airfield engineering design or management of airfield design, with strong CAD (2D and 3D) capabilities.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages desirable.
  • Ideally a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or a similar recognised professional body, and either holding or working toward Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience in bid and client account management advantageous.

Travel within the UK and to selected international locations may be required (subject to mutual agreement).
