About the Role

We are looking to appoint a new Editorial Director for the Nature Reviews journal team in the Nature Portfolio. This is an exciting leadership role working in the Nature Portfolio senior management team on a family of world‑leading reviews journals, overseeing a global team of professional editors and reporting to the VP of Nature Research and Reviews Journals.

The Editorial Director, Nature Reviews drives the strategic growth and development of the Nature Reviews family of journals by leading and inspiring the relevant Chief Editors and the editorial teams they oversee. As Editorial Director, Nature Reviews you would be a key member of the Nature Portfolio senior management team, working closely with the Director of Publishing Strategy, the Director of Editorial Performance, the Editor‑in‑Chief and the Editorial Director team on projects and activities that ensure overall portfolio success.

What you will achieve in this role
Drive editorial and publishing development
  • Lead and inspire Chief Editors and their teams to deliver top‑quality content and author experience.
  • Set and monitor annual goals for commissioning and publication in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Use data‑driven insights to manage performance, KPIs, and workflow improvements.
  • Interpret market trends and external intelligence to inform portfolio development and strategic initiatives.
  • Champion adoption of new tools and approaches to enhance productivity.
Build and lead a high‑performing team
  • Create an engaged, collaborative environment aligned with strategic goals.
  • Set clear objectives, monitor progress, and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Coach team leaders in management and professional development.
  • Promote open communication, staff wellbeing, and inclusion.
  • Role‑model Springer Nature values and hybrid working practices.
Participate in cross‑functional projects and task forces

  • Foster strong relationships across editorial, production, marketing, sales, and finance teams.
