About Our Client

Our client is a leading energy trading company headquartered in Düsseldorf, known for its dynamic market presence and innovative approach to energy solutions across Europe. As part of its strategic growth, the company is seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the executive leadership team and drive financial strategy, governance, and performance.

The Role

As CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the business and driving the company's financial planning and strategy. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring long-term financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management within a fast-paced and complex energy trading environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the finance function, including accounting, controlling, treasury, risk management, and compliance
• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company objectives
• Provide sound financial analysis and insight to support strategic decisions and business growth
• Ensure robust internal controls and regulatory compliance across financial operations
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial reporting processes
• Liaise with auditors, financial institutions, investors, and regulatory bodies
• Partner with the trading, operations, and technology teams to support commercial success
• Drive continuous improvement and digitisation of financial processes
• Represent the financial interests of the company at board level and in external communications

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the energy industry , with at least 5 years in a senior financial leadership role
• Deep understanding of energy trading markets , instruments, and associated financial risks
• Proven track record in managing complex financial operations and leading high-performing teams
• Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
• Fluency in English; proficiency in German is a strong advantage
• Must be based in Düsseldorf or willing to relocate
