Overview
De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) provides general contracting services as an industrial integrator from project management (EPCM) to full turnkey construction (EPC) via Conceptual Engineering. DSEC has an established reputation as a process integrator, specializing in agro-industrial fields such as sugar, edible vegetable oil & proteins, biofuels, bio-based products & agro nutrients. It is a world-class provider of Engineering, Procurement and Construction services under a single point of responsibility. For our Zeitz project, near Leipzig in Germany, we are looking for a Piping Supervisor to strengthen our on-site team and will be the on-site technical reference for the subcontractors’ piping supervisors.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate & Subcontractor Management: supervise and guide subcontractors responsible for piping erection; organize and lead weekly meetings with piping contractors and draft meeting minutes; attend DSEC coordination meetings and provide clear reporting on progress; review and approve subcontractors’ execution methods in collaboration with the HSE team and Construction Site Manager; monitor and anticipate work sequences while ensuring coordination with other disciplines.
- Work Progress & Execution: develop and update the detailed piping execution schedule in line with the overall project timeline; track progress, identify deviations, and report delays to the DSEC Site Manager; conduct regular site inspections to ensure work meets contractual requirements and quality standards; analyze technical difficulties and propose solutions in collaboration with the DSEC Site Manager and Project Engineer.
- Quality Control & Compliance: supervise and inspect the quality of piping erection works; identify and report any non-conformities to the QA/QC Manager and assist in implementing corrective actions; prepare the necessary documentation for issuing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when work deviates from specifications.
- Handover & Pre-Commissioning: coordinate non-destructive testing and validate subcontractor procedures; prepare documentation for the handover between subcontractors and other disciplines; inspect completed work and establish snagging lists for outstanding tasks before project completion; participate in organizing the pre-commissioning phase and ensure a smooth transition to commissioning.
- Role Guidelines & Limitations: Any technical modifications must be approved by the DSEC Site Manager and Project Engineer before being communicated to subcontractors; any financial impact resulting from scope changes must receive prior approval from the DSEC Site Manager.
Education & Training
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Experience
Experience: At least 10 years of experience in piping supervision on large-scale industrial projects
