Position: W3‑Professorship (full‑time, 2‑year appointment, renewable), located in Faculty I – Humanities and Educational Sciences, Center for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA). The professor will lead, teach and expand the interdisciplinary research on antisemitism, including its entanglements with racism, anti‑Ziganism and Islamophobia.

About the institution

Technische Universität Berlin is an Excellence University in the Berlin University Alliance, with around 35,000 students and 7,000 employees. The Center for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA) was founded in 1982 and is a leading international research hub on discrimination, hostility and violence. The professorship is funded through the Berlin Program for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching (BCP) and will be offered pending sufficient funding.

Responsibilities
  • Represent antisemitism research in both its breadth and its methodological interconnections, positioning the ZfA as a leading interdisciplinary research hub.
  • Integrate at least one of the following research perspectives into future ZfA work:
    • Jewish Studies: Explain how to expand and intensify cooperation with the Selma Stern Center Berlin‑Brandenburg, supported by TU Berlin.
    • Research on Racism: Relate antisemitism in its social constitution to other forms of discrimination such as anti‑Muslim, anti‑black racism and anti‑Ziganism.
  • Develop a concept for integrating antisemitism research into Berlin‑Brandenburg research initiatives on racism (e.g., DeZIM) and other national and international research landscapes.
  • Participate in and further develop teaching modules in the Master’s program “Interdisciplinary Antisemitism Research” and the Bachelor’s program “Culture and Technology”.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management of the ZfA department, fostering young researchers, women and social diversity and supporting knowledge transfer, internationalisation, gender‑ and diversity‑competent action, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support AI and digitalisation projects within the ZfA, maintaining the commitment to innovative research methods.
Qualifications
  • Essential academic qualifications:
    • Completed university degree in a field relevant to antisemitism research.
    • Strong academic record demonstrated by a doctoral degree in the humanities/social sciences or psychology.
    • Additional academic achievements (e.g., a positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation, or equivalent).
    • Teaching aptitude demonstrated through a teaching portfolio.
  • Necessary competences:
    • Proven research and teaching achievements in antisemitism, Jewish studies or racism research, with peer‑reviewed publications.
    • Extensive teaching experience in the thematic areas of the Master’s program (antisemitism theory, Jewish thought, Jewish history, or relevant social/historical research).
    • Experience in acquiring third‑party funding.
  • Desirable competences:
    • Leadership and management qualities for institute operations.
    • Experience in academic self‑administration and internal organisation.
    • Media engagement and political consulting experience.
    • Concepts for expanding the professorship’s integration into the research landscape at national and international levels.
    • Track record of promoting junior researchers and facilitating technology transfer.
    • Competence in gender and diversity issues.
