Job focus

Teach animation as an artistic form and a means of communication, grounded in classical animal films and expanded to contemporary animation practices including digital methods, experimental techniques, and interactive narrative forms.

Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver teaching programmes in animation, covering both classical and digital techniques.
  • Conduct research and reflect on animation’s aesthetic, technical, theoretical, and political dimensions.
  • Collaborate with other departments, contributing to artistic‑creative development plans.
  • Prepare and submit a teaching concept (max. 2 pages) outlining pedagogical approaches and cross‑departmental cooperation.
  • Deliver teaching in German; superior English skills are a plus.
Qualifications
  • Internationally recognised artistic practice in animation, with particular expertise in stop‑frame animation and puppet construction.
  • Strong knowledge of classical and digital animation techniques and current theoretical debates.
  • Documented teaching experience at art academies or equivalent institutions.
  • Academic degree from an art academy or proven experience in academic self‑management.
  • Ability to teach in German and good command of English.
Teaching load

9 semester hours per week (according to the Hessian Ordinance on Teaching Duties). The load can be fulfilled by supervising the Animation class within Visual Communication.
