Jobbeschreibung

AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. For more information on ESC please check out our blog: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/in-the-works-aws-european-sovereign-cloud/

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
  • Deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
  • Build and lead a best-in-class development engineering and operations team aligned with AWS customer-focused values.

About the job background

Utility Computing (UC) and European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) form part of AWS UC. UC provides innovations from foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2 to new product innovations that differentiate AWS services. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for cloud services.

A day in the life

You will also provide constructive feedback on change management documents, address operational backlog, and collaborate to navigate challenges to ensure seamless functionality. You may develop and test scripts to improve workflows.

You may assume an educator role, sharing insights on the European Sovereign Cloud with service teams to foster mutual understanding and continuous learning.

This work emphasizes continuous learning and improvement, recognizing that every effort contributes to team success and system reliability.

In addition, this role involves 24x7 on-call responsibility as part of a team to root-cause issues and ensure systems remain resilient and fault-tolerant.
