Overview

Support Engineer, Managed Operations (m/w/d) - AWS European Sovereign Cloud Development Center GmbH. AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and seeks experienced support engineers with cloud operations background to join the AWS Managed Operations team. You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) exclusively for EU customers. Responsibilities include launching ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. A typical day involves working with technology leaders, enhancing day-to-day operations, and improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC to deliver scalable services and a high-availability experience for EU customers.

Utility Computing (UC) European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is part of AWS UC. AWS UC supports development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. A day in the life: resolve less time-sensitive issues, improve services, procedures, documentation and tools, escalate when SOPs are unclear, and be the go-to person for keeping systems running efficiently. You may participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of standard hours.

  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
  • Deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
  • Be the go-to person for keeping teams’ systems running efficiently and continuously improve procedures, documentation, and tools.
Eligibility requirements
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
  • Employees will participate in an On-Call rota.

  • Knowledge or experience troubleshooting, with the ability to diagnose and resolve Linux and networking issues, and address problems affecting performance, reliability, and availability of software systems.
Preferred qualifications
  • Able to read scripts or code with comments to understand operation.
  • Able to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
  • Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
  • Knowledge or experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications; performance tuning and monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).
