Overview

A leading multinational in the scientific instrumentation sector is searching for a hands-on, growth-oriented Director of Field Service for Northern Europe. This strategic leadership position oversees field service operations across Germany, UK, Ireland, and the Nordics, driving excellence in both team performance and customer satisfaction. The focus is on operational change, measurable achievements, and detailed delivery, not just high-level strategy. The ideal candidate will be based in Germany; however the UK & Benelux will also be considered with European experience.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of 6–8 field service managers across several countries, building a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and daily operations to ensure technical excellence and outstanding customer service.
  • Drive the delivery of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, preferably in a manufacturing and instrumentation environment with direct customer engagements.
  • Manage field service budgets, KPIs, and operational goals, implementing measurable improvements in response times, cost efficiency, and service quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support regional leaders and ensure seamless execution of service contracts and programs.
  • Lead change-management initiatives; operationalize strategic vision into practical results and measurable successes.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and uphold high standards of health, safety, and quality assurance.
  • Regularly report on service metrics and drive continuous improvement using data-driven insights.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Business, or related field); Master’s is a plus.
  • 10+ years’ field service management experience in technical / manufacturing environments (scientific instruments, automation, or similar preferred).
  • Fluent German (Preferred).
  • Track record of managing leaders in multiple countries (preferably teams of 5+ managers); operational focus with specific examples of achievements—reducing costs, improving efficiency, overcoming challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver detailed operational change, hit KPIs, and lead people through complex transitions—not just blue-sky strategy.
  • Strong customer-first mindset, data-driven decision making, and collaborative leadership style.
  • Experience working with works councils and multinational teams is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, change management, and coaching skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support teams and engage directly with customers.
Why Apply?
  • High-impact, visible leadership role with significant growth potential – succession to VP EMEA possible within 12–24 months.
  • Opportunity to drive operational transformation and shape the future of service delivery across multiple regions.
  • Competitive compensation and flexibility around location for the right candidate.
  • Shortlisted candidates will meet the regional VP, followed by panel interviews with peers. Final rounds involve senior global leadership. This is a business-critical role with thorough, multi-step selection.

If you are ready to lead, deliver results, and drive meaningful operational changes in field service, apply now for confidential consideration.
