A private university in Germany seeks a full-time position in the Chair of Theoretical Philosophy starting 1 January 2026. Responsibilities include supporting teaching and research in philosophy, presenting at conferences, and developing study programs. Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) is Germany's first privately funded university. It was founded in 1982 and has since established itself as an important educational institution in Germany. Today, it employs more than 900 employees and over 3,000 students enrolled in the Faculties of Health as well as Business and Society, located in Witten. We are looking to strengthen our team at the Chair of Theoretical Philosophy and Philosophy of the Social Sciences to start on 1 January 2026 or later.
The position is full-time (40 hours per week). The position is initially limited to 3 years, with the aim of a longer-term collaboration.
Your tasks: We offer you a varied field of activity in teaching and research. In teaching, you will support the chair holder in the planning and implementation of courses, in holding examinations, and in the conceptual development of the study programs. In research, you will work both independently and as part of a team on projects in theoretical philosophy. You will present your research findings at national and international conferences and publish them in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. You will also promote the transfer of knowledge between research and practice. One focus of the team in the coming years will be on the development and evaluation of inference methods for mechanistic explanations. If you do not yet have any knowledge of German, you will be expected to successfully pass a B2 exam within the first two years.
