We are relaunching our e-journals and e-books system and are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Product Manager (m/f/o) to join the global Thieme Science Business Unit.

You are passionate about Open Access and developing author-oriented services and solutions. You want to play an active role facilitating our Thieme Science Strategy. You utilize a very "hands-on" approach and drive change in a rapidly developing publishing landscape leveraging strong interpersonal skills. You have a customer centric mindset and consider yourself a problem solver with agile experience.

Your new passion

  • Strategy -You develop a clear vision for the journals- and e-books-platform that aligns with the mission, strategy and business goals of the scientific and medical journal and book publication business. You are responsible for the modernization and further development of the platform in technical, professional and business matters.
  • Content Distribution Oversight - You ensure that the platform effectively distributes journal content across multiple channels (website, social media, discovery platforms and aggregators), optimizing for reach, discoverability and user engagement.
  • Quality Assurance, Compliance and Documentation - You oversee the reliability, usability and compliance of the platform regarding COPE, WCAG, German Accessibilty Act and other rules and regulations. You ensure that all platform capabilities, including interfaces to submission and other processes are well-documented and accessible.
  • User Needs and Market Research - You gather and analyze feedback from authors, readers, reviewers and editorial staff to identify pain points and opportunities for platform improvement. You monitor the market and evaluate existing and new initiatives in terms of their usefulness and feasibility.
  • Performance Monitoring - You are responsible to track key metrics such as article readership, user engagement, submission rates, publication times to inform ongoing product decisions and measure success.
  • Roadmap and Prioritization - You own and prioritize the product roadmap, balancing feature development, technical enhancements and content strategy in line with Thieme's publishing objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - You work closely with internal and external developers, IT, editorial, marketing and design teams to deliver platform improvements and new features.
  • Team Lead - You will lead, motivate and develop the eJournals and eBooks product team.


You inspire us with this

  • Experienced product manager (m/f/o) with track record heading complex cross-functional projects with international stakeholders for a minimum of 5 years
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Ability to quickly understand business needs and translate them into product requirements, in line with a cohesive product strategy as well as strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Tolerance for ambiguity, strong prioritization skills and the ability to work cooperatively with a large variety of personalities from different cultures at all levels of business
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken); German language skills would be a bonus
  • Desirable: Knowledge of academic (STM) publishing and the scientific community and its needs in general, and Open Access publishing in particular
