A leading research institute based in Bremen is seeking a predoctoral candidate to join their team focused on battery recycling research. This part-time role involves characterisation of critical raw material sources, development of electrochemical methods, and collaboration on innovative projects. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, strong laboratory skills, and excellent communication abilities. The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) is one of Europe’s most important independent research institutes in the fields of ‘Shaping and Functional Materials’ and ‘Adhesive Bonding Technology and Surfaces’. Research and development work is focussed on providing customers with reliable and application‑oriented solutions. Products and technologies primarily address sectors that are particularly important for future viability: aviation, automotive, energy technology, maritime technologies, medical technology and life sciences. Around 700 highly qualified employees work together on specific projects and topics. A new working group (Electrochemical Processes for Recycling and Water Treatment, RecWass group) is currently being set up in the Electrical Energy Storage department. RecWass group is looking for a predoctoral candidate to join the team in Bremen as soon as possible, latest in March 2026.
The work takes place within the framework of MeGaBat project in which the recovery of critical raw materials from battery recycling industry is the overall objective.
