About Huawei's Jena Research Center

The Jena Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research and architectural development of optics-related products. Within the center, the Automotive Optics Team is seeking a:

PhD Student in Optical Modeling Research
Responsibilities
  • Perform literature analysis and technical insight to identify challenges and future trends in optical modeling.
  • Research and develop ray tracing and physical optical propagation algorithms, and compare with commercial software to verify modeling accuracy.
  • Explore cross-disciplinary or cross-scale modeling solutions for opto-mechanical-thermal joint design or geometric-diffraction joint design.
  • Investigate AI-assisted optical design methods and conduct proof of concept to verify feasibility.
  • Attend top-tier academic conferences and exhibitions to exchange ideas and help identify future trends and directions for optical modeling.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in optics, computer science, AI, mathematics, or related disciplines, with a deep understanding of Maxwell's equations and light propagation theory.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB; experience with optical design and simulation software like Zemax, LightTools, CodeV, VirtualLab, etc., is a plus.
  • Passionate about innovations and technology in optical modeling, with a strong willingness to learn cross-disciplinary knowledge.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) and open to collaboration in a multicultural team.
