Optical Technician
Location: On-site near Munich, Germany
Travel: Required for field installations and service
Relocation Support: Temporary housing available for new joiners
A growing space and optics company based near Munich is looking for an Optical Technician to join their team. This is a hands‑on role focused on building, assembling, and commissioning complex optical ground systems used in space observation, research, and defense.
You’ll be working with a mix of optical, electrical, and mechanical components. From the workshop to the field, you’ll take full systems from parts to fully integrated and operational. You’ll also support installations and troubleshooting at customer sites, so comfort with travel and fieldwork is important.
Full system integration of optical ground stations (including mounts, domes, and sensors)
Electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, and optical alignment
System testing, calibration, and fault diagnosis
Field deployment and on‑site commissioning of complete installations
Collaborating with in‑house engineering and support teams
Writing test reports and documenting integration work
Hands‑on experience with electromechanical systems, ideally in optics, automation, or related fields
Background in either mechanical or electrical assembly
Familiarity with optical instruments or astronomy hardware is a plus
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and wiring diagrams
Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
Willingness to travel internationally for field work
Comfortable working in English (German is helpful but not required)
Experience integrating high‑precision optical systems
Worked with servo systems, stepper motors, or control electronics
A personal interest or hobby in astronomy, optics, or robotics
