Jobbeschreibung

Optical Technician
Location: On-site near Munich, Germany
Travel: Required for field installations and service
Relocation Support: Temporary housing available for new joiners

A growing space and optics company based near Munich is looking for an Optical Technician to join their team. This is a hands‑on role focused on building, assembling, and commissioning complex optical ground systems used in space observation, research, and defense.

You’ll be working with a mix of optical, electrical, and mechanical components. From the workshop to the field, you’ll take full systems from parts to fully integrated and operational. You’ll also support installations and troubleshooting at customer sites, so comfort with travel and fieldwork is important.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Full system integration of optical ground stations (including mounts, domes, and sensors)

  • Electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, and optical alignment

  • System testing, calibration, and fault diagnosis

  • Field deployment and on‑site commissioning of complete installations

  • Collaborating with in‑house engineering and support teams

  • Writing test reports and documenting integration work

What they’re looking for:
  • Hands‑on experience with electromechanical systems, ideally in optics, automation, or related fields

  • Background in either mechanical or electrical assembly

  • Familiarity with optical instruments or astronomy hardware is a plus

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and wiring diagrams

  • Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

  • Willingness to travel internationally for field work

  • Comfortable working in English (German is helpful but not required)

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience integrating high‑precision optical systems

  • Worked with servo systems, stepper motors, or control electronics

  • A personal interest or hobby in astronomy, optics, or robotics

This is a great opportunity to join a small, focused team doing meaningful technical work in the space and optics field. You’ll get a lot of variety, responsibility, and the satisfaction of seeing systems go from boxes in a workshop to live field deployments.
