Own thesustainable delivery and technical excellence of a cross‑functional product squad. Partner with the Product Manager to turn strategy into predictable outcomes for customers and the business.
Team: 5–8 engineers within a product squad (with peers in product, design, data).
Reports to: VP of Engineering.
Location: Europe-first, remote.
Predictable delivery: Clear plans and commitments; delivery variance within agreed thresholds; minimal rollover.
Quality & reliability: Defect/leakage rates, SLOs, change failure rate, mean time to recovery.
Flow & efficiency: Lead time for changes, deployment frequency, WIP limits respected.
Customer impact: Team‑level product metrics (e.g., activation, adoption, retention) agreed with PM.
Team health: Engagement, retention, hiring, skills growth.
Drive planning, sequencing, and execution for the squad; make trade‑offs explicit and time‑box discovery/validation.
Remove blockers fast; coordinate dependencies across teams; hold crisp, data‑driven status.
Establish and evolve pragmatic agile practices to maintainsustainable pace.
Set the engineering bar (architecture, code health, testing, observability, security).
Perform code and design reviews; pair andcontribute code when it materially de‑risks or accelerates.
Guide architectural decisions; keep tech debt visible and deliberately managed with the PM.
Co‑own squad strategy with the PM: clarify problem framing, success metrics, and prioritisation.
Balance discovery vs. delivery; instrument features; ensure learnings flow back into roadmap decisions.
Coach and grow engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and growth plans; run fair, timely performance reviews.
Address under‑performance with clarity and compassion; run PIPs when needed.
Hire bar‑raising talent; partner with recruiting; design and run structured interviews; ensure excellent onboarding.
Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe environment; promote knowledge sharing and mentorship.
Track and publish team metrics (delivery, quality, flow, impact) and use them for continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards relevant to the squad’s domain.

Engineers feelenabled and challenged; hiring raises the bar; newcomers are productive within weeks.
Architectural decisions arepurposefuland bias to simplicity; incidents are rare and blamelessly learned from.
The PM and EM operate asone leadership pairwith shared goals and transparent trade‑offs.
Proven experience leading product engineering teams (typically 3–5+ years EM; 7–10+ years total in software).
Strong technical depth in our stack or adjacent technologies; able to review and contribute production code.
Demonstrated track record of delivering outcomes through others in a sustainable way.
Proficiency with modern delivery practices (CI/CD, trunk‑based dev, testing strategy, observability, incident management).
Excellent communication and stakeholder management across engineering, product, design, and go‑to‑market.
Experience operating user‑facing, high‑availability services at scale.
Prior hands‑on work improving activation/adoption/retention metrics with a PM/Design partner.
Experience building teams across multiple locations/time zones.
