Data Scientist - VC Backed startup (Munich)

Cherry Ventures is supporting our portfolio with this hire

Role: Data Scientist

We are hiring a Data Scientist to build and scale the analytical and algorithmic core of our energy products. You will work on real-world optimization and forecasting problems at the intersection of energy systems, software, and applied machine learning.

About Us

We are building Co-Power to power Europe’s industry. We believe in a future of true energy abundance, where clean electricity is ultra-affordable, resilient, and a competitive advantage for European manufacturers.

We install large-scale batteries at industrial sites and connect them into an intelligent network that manages electricity in real time, turning factories into energy hubs and making intermittent renewables reliable, dispatchable, low-cost power available around the clock.

Our mission is bold – and we’re looking for people who don’t just want to rethink energy, but to build the energy company of the future. People who get as excited about substations as they do about trading and optimization. People who believe Europe can lead again, and that energy is the lever to make it happen.

What You Will Do

  • Build and iterate on optimization models for battery storage operation to minimize energy procurement costs, with algorithms and decision logic that can actively intervene when required.
  • Develop and maintain load forecasting models, including approaches to quantify and manage forecast uncertainty.
  • Contribute to data platform architecture – help shape how we ingest, store, and serve time-series data from battery systems and EMS integrations.
  • Run analyses, simulations, and scenario studies related to battery operation, energy supply, and energy-market applications.
  • Work closely with our software engineering team to bring models into production and help build a state-of-the-art data science stack with a strong focus on robustness and real-world performance.
  • Take a hands-on role across the full data science pipeline, including data cleaning, preparation, feature engineering, modeling, and validation.
  • Collaborate with external partners (EMS Providers, Trading Partners) to align models with market and operational constraints.

What We’re Looking For

  • Min. 3–5 years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related quantitative field.
  • You think critically, proactively contribute ideas, and enjoy building things from the ground up.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic mindset combined with the ambition to build state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Strong Python skills and experience developing production-grade software together with engineers.
  • Comfort with SQL for data exploration and pipeline development
  • Solid understanding of data cleaning, data quality, and feature engineering
  • Ability to translate complex real-world systems into models that drive operational decisions.
  • Professional experience in one or more of the following areas is a big plus: energy markets, energy systems optimization, time-series analysis and forecasting in the energy sector.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary, potentially alongside equity in Co-Power.
  • Top-notch equipment. You choose what you need.
  • A dog-friendly office at Goetheplatz, Munich, with all the usual shenanigans.
  • While we allow for plenty of flexibility, we ask for an office-first commitment: when you’re not traveling, most of your time will be in the office. In an early-stage company, people learn faster, connect better, and accomplish more when they spend meaningful time together.
