Copernicus Mission Control Systems Operations Service (m/f/d) Engineer Ref. No. 21_008

For our customer, Eumetsat in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking a Copernicus Mission Control Systems Operations Service Engineer.

The Engineer will perform tasks related to mission control system operations and engineering for the following missions:

  • Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission: routine Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B operations.
  • Copernicus Sentinel-6/Jason-CS mission: routine operations of S6.
Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and coordination of daily operations.
  • Monitoring the status of the mission control system and performing daily checks to confirm nominal status and performance.
  • Monitoring system interfaces to other facilities.
  • Contributing to anomaly management, documentation, investigation, classification, and resolution, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards.
  • Providing support to critical and/or special operations as needed.
  • Designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining mission control operations procedures based on operational needs.
  • Designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining system and ground segment procedures.
  • Developing and maintaining specific tools/scripts as required.
  • Performing operational validation of procedures and coordinating validation test campaigns.
  • Updating inter-organization documentation such as JORP, OICDs, and ISA.

The Engineer is expected to provide on-call support on an as-needed basis, coordinated with the service manager.

This is a full-time position located at Eumetsat’s premises in Germany.

Qualifications & Competencies

Applicants should have a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and:

  • At least 3 years of experience operating spacecraft control systems using SCOS-2000.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing or maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software.
  • Experience in verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Effective communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work systematically, under pressure, and with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for training and workshops.

Desirable skills include experience with databases and SQL, system testing, LEO satellite operations, Oracle databases, configuration management systems, satellite simulators, ECSS and CCSDS standards, and mission planning systems.

You should be able to work independently, plan effectively, and produce accurate technical documentation. Good communication skills and teamwork are essential.
