The Department of Information Systems at the University of Münster, together with its research network ERCIS – European Research Center for Information Systems – is an international network of scientists who passionately conduct research at the intersection of management and technology. The Chair of Information Systems & Business Process Management (Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke) is an internationally recognized team that continually advances insights into the use of innovative digital technologies in business and society, publishing in leading journals such as MISQ, ISR, JMIS, Management Science and MIT Sloan Management Review and maintaining an active dialogue with industry and society.

The newly established Future Utility Lab is a joint research initiative aimed at promoting research in the field of digital transformation in the utilities sector. It brings together partners from industry and academia to investigate how the processes of digital transformation and their effects on the socio‑technical system of municipal utilities are developing, generating impact in practice and publishing in leading journals. As an Academic Advisor, you will play an active role in shaping the Lab, contribute your specialist interests and develop your own academic profile for a successful academic career at the Chair.

Position Overview

The Department of Information Systems, Chair of Information Systems & Business Process Management at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill one or more positions of an Academic Advisor at the earliest possible date. We are offering a three‑year, fixed‑term full‑time position with the option to extend by an additional three years. The prospective candidate is required to teach four hours per week during the semester (4 SWS).

  • Establishing and developing the Future Utility Lab
  • Building a high‑visibility research profile in academia and practice
  • Publishing in leading journals
  • Developing and implementing attractive teaching programmes
  • Establishing your own research group, especially through the acquisition of research funds
  • Implementing your habilitation project
Qualifications
  • Higher education degree and completed doctorate in the field of economics, information systems, computer science or a comparable discipline
  • Outstanding academic performance (e.g. doctorate with distinction, publications, prizes or other achievements)
  • High motivation to achieve ambitious goals in a high‑performing team
  • Sound knowledge and experience in research design, especially the planning and application of different research methods
  • Strong interest in further deepening selected research methods as well as opening up new subject areas
  • Ability to work in a team, mature communication skills, organisational skills and an independent, productive way of working
