The Opportunity

The Opportunity: WSP is looking for a Senior Technical Water Resources Engineer with more than two decades of experience to join our Surface Water team. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with advanced expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, mine water management, and the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects. The successful candidate will take a lead role in technical execution, provide mentorship to junior staff, and contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of complex water-related initiatives across Canada and internationally.

As part of WSP, you will be connected to a vast network of technical resources and subject matter experts, with opportunities to collaborate on impactful projects alongside diverse and talented teams. Based in our Mississauga, ON office, you will support the Surface Water Team by guiding junior consultants, contributing to technical solutions and design development, and engaging in projects at the local, regional, and global levels.

A day in the life
  • You'll work with interdisciplinary project teams that offer highly complex work, a chance to challenge yourself and what you've learned so far and an opportunity push your skills to the next level with some of the best in the industry.
  • You'll work with senior engineers to provide technical services related to water resources engineering including mine water.
  • You use your knowledge and contribute to the following: water balance studies, hydrodynamic and water quality modeling, hydrologic assessments, dam breach analysis, flood plain mappingand mitigation, river engineering, hydraulic infrastructure analysis, options assessments, hydraulic and streamflow evaluations, baseline and impact assessments,and design of water diversions and control structures.
  • You will provide technical solutions and designs, manage projects and teams, mentor and contribute to knowledge sharing and will contribute to multi-disciplinary projects both locally, regionally and internationally.

What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn new systems and skills independently.
  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; advanced degrees are considered an asset
  • Professional Engineer designation in Ontario
  • More than 20 years of progressive experience in water resources engineering and consulting
  • Proven leadership in technical delivery, mentoring, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Extensive experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Visual OTTHYMO, and PCSWMM
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D hydrodynamic and water quality modeling, including CORMIX and MIKE 3
  • Strong background in surface water baseline and impact assessments, permitting, and regulatory approvals
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement surface water quantity and quality monitoring programs
  • Expertise in stormwater management systems and hydraulic structure design, including channels, culverts, weirs, spillways, dams, bridge crossings, and ponds
  • Experience preparing water balances and using GoldSim for probabilistic modeling
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS platforms such as ArcMap and ArcGIS
  • Familiarity with mine water management and surface water–groundwater interaction modeling
  • Experience conducting streamflow monitoring and installation programs
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with a track record of preparing high-quality deliverables for permits and environmental assessments
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License in Ontario, with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and adapt to evolving project needs
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is considered an asset
  • Self-motivated with a strong aptitude for learning new systems and tools independently
  • Passion for contributing to meaningful environmental projects and being part of a globally recognized consulting firm.
