Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator

Location: First Nation Community near Calgary, Alberta

Position Type: Full-time

Wage/Salary Range: Competitive, based on experience and certification level

Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday with on-call rotation and call-outs as required

Hours Per Day: 8 hours per day, with additional hours during call-outs

Job Overview

GrizzlyTrek is currently seeking one Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator to join our Valued Clients team at a First Nation community near Calgary. This is a full‑time position, ideally suited to an individual committed to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and community capacity building. A key aspect of this role is training, mentoring, and supporting community member employees as they progress toward obtaining and advancing their wastewater treatment certification.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment systems in compliance with provincial regulations and environmental standards.
  • Perform routine inspections, sampling, testing, and record‑keeping of treatment processes and equipment.
  • Respond to alarms, system upsets, and emergency call‑outs as required.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs to ensure continuous and safe operation.
  • Train, mentor, and coach community member employees on wastewater operations, safety practices, and technical competencies.
  • Support trainees in developing career pathways toward provincial wastewater treatment certification.
  • Prepare operational reports and maintain accurate logs and regulatory documentation.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and environmental stewardship within the facility and community.
Qualifications
  • Valid provincial Wastewater Treatment Operator certification (minimum Level I or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, environmental compliance, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to call‑outs and emergencies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to train and mentor developing operators.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher-level wastewater certification (Level II or above).
  • Experience working in or with First Nation or rural communities.
  • Previous experience in coaching, mentoring, or workforce development roles.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily at a wastewater treatment facility, including both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, mechanical equipment, chemicals, and confined spaces may occur.
  • Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures is required at all times.
