Warranty Claims Representative (Residential Construction)

Full-time 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Remuneration includes group benefits and a car allowance. Salary range is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position Summary

The New Home Warranty Program of Manitoba provides 3rd party warranty on new home construction in Manitoba. The Warranty Manager / Inspector is responsible for assessing warranty claims and inspecting new home construction. The position requires outstanding communication / mediation skills and some background / experience in residential construction. This position requires both office work and out of office work (claim evaluation / construction inspection). This is a shared role with our current Warranty Manager / Inspector.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, review, and resolve claims by communicating with the homeowner and builder which may include on-site evaluations. Take pictures of defects, record defect information in database, provide written reports when required, and evaluate claim repairs.
  • Inspect homes at various stages of construction; review municipal inspection reports; discuss building code requirements and good practice / industry standard with builders and trades.
  • Claim resolution will involve referencing the Program\'s Construction Performance Standards, research of the Manitoba Building Code and reviewing site plans, engineer reports, 3rd party inspection reports, manufacture requirements, etc.
  • Attend Conciliations (arbitration) as a Program representative.
  • Manage warranty repairs done by the Program. Obtain quotes, hire trades, organize / schedule repairs, inspect repairs.
  • Assist the CEO with new builder member applications: inspect new construction and evaluate builder competency.
  • Assist in maintaining / updating the Program’s Construction Standards and Homeowner Maintenance Manual.
  • Education and training: provide technical bulletins to builders on re-occurring defects, changes to the building code, best practice, etc. Organize and / or deliver brief educational seminars to builders. (this is an advanced duty that may not be required immediately)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • College diploma or certification or combination of relevant training courses in related fields in the residential construction industry.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in the residential construction industry.
  • General knowledge of new home construction and understanding of industry standards.
  • Knowledge of the Manitoba Building Code and ability to read engineered plans is an asset.
  • Must be professional, courteous, and have excellent verbal / written communication skills.
  • Must be good at solving problems, conducting research, attention to detail, and delivering information in a concise, professional manner.
  • Dispute resolution skills; ability to deal with conflict.
  • Office experience is an asset.
  • Computer skills required: Office 365
