Overview

ENGin pairs English-fluent volunteers with Ukrainian learners for weekly online conversation practice. Pairs are matched 1-on-1 based on preferences, interests, and availability to ensure an effective and mutually enjoyable communication experience. After a match is made, ENGin supports learners and volunteers throughout their participation with tips, resources, and problem resolution. We screen every learner and volunteer to ensure fit for the program, and provide training and orientation.

Since launching in 2020, ENGin has connected over 26,000 Ukrainians with over 24,000 volunteers. 99% of our learners report breaking the language barrier after 3 months of participation in our program.

What you’ll do

Join ENGin as a conversation partner. This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a direct impact on someone’s life while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend.

  • Pair with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one-hour video chats at times convenient for you.
  • Practice English with your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and provide an empathetic, authentic space for connection.
  • No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian is required; we offer training resources, session materials, and flexibility to customize sessions to fit goals and preferences.
  • Our team provides support throughout your time with ENGin.
  • Requirements: English fluency, a strong internet connection, and a commitment of one hour per week for a minimum of 10–12 weeks.
