Job description
Overview

The Volunteer, Community and Crew Coordinator will lead the volunteer and crew program for RBC GranFondo, responsible for recruitment, training, and deployment of crew. The role supports the event team with planning, delivery, and implementation of plans to deliver two cycling events in 2026 – XFONDO and the RBC GranFondo Whistler. The incumbent will also plan and host community events to engage cyclists, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and more.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the process to assess, plan and track overall volunteer needs for events;
  • Lead the recruitment of volunteers;
  • Participate in headcount/crew needs assessment and planning;
  • Build and maintain relationships with organizations, groups, and individuals to grow the volunteer program;
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure all event-related details are included in event planning documents;
  • Develop and implement the training and recognition program for volunteers;
  • Work with the event team to ensure task descriptions, schedules and reporting structures are developed and implemented;
  • Manage and maintain the online volunteer management system;
  • Create an environment that recognizes and respects the role and importance of volunteers;
  • Lead coordination and adherence to safety for the areas of responsibility.
Community Outreach
  • Support the Community Outreach Program for all events;
  • Plan and coordinate community events and green initiatives — examples include Prima Fondos, Bike to Work Week, Club Night and more;
  • Promote community events and green initiatives;
  • Explore new and innovative ways to involve the organization within the Vancouver cycling community.
Other
  • Participate in team meetings as required;
  • Liaise and collaborate with other areas of the company and external partners as required;
  • Ensure timely receipt of supplier invoices and assist with event budget review and reconciliation as needed;
  • Provide post-event reports on Volunteer Program and activities, and events (per RBC GranFondo templates).
Minimum Experience Requirements

Experience / Background

  • Experience and high degree of ability for managing groups of people
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Mass participation, live event experience is crucial
  • A passion for endurance sports or cycling is desirable

  • Interpersonal & communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Creative problem solving ability
  • Ability to work with a team, operate under pressure, multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Physical fitness and ability to work long and hard days while maintaining a positive atmosphere
  • Some evenings and weekend hours may be required
  • Knowledge of cycling events and the industry is an asset
Salary
  • $3,500 to $4,000/month, depending on experience and qualifications.
