Vice President, Learning and Development

HealthCareCAN (HCC), the national voice of hospitals, health authorities, health research, and healthcare organizations across Canada, is seeking a Vice President, Learning and Development to lead its professional development division, CHA Learning. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and dynamic leader with a passion for health system improvement and a deep understanding of leadership development.

About the Role

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President, Learning and Development will:

  • Strategy & Planning. Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and provide strategic oversight of the Association’s professional development division, CHA Learning, define the division’s goals, and develop multi-year business plans.
  • Fiscal Management. Prepare annual budget and business development strategies for CHA Learning which optimize opportunities for revenue generation to support, in consultation with the COO, HCC’s strategic and business plans.
  • Human Resource Management. Responsible for determining CHA Learning’s HR needs, in consultation with the COO, and establishing a high-performance team that can deliver on the division’s multi-year business plan.
  • Business Development. In consultation with the CEO and COO, seek new opportunities and lead the divisions’ activities to identify, develop, market and deliver leading, accessible, and relevant professional development products that support HCC’s strategic plan. Responsible for leveraging existing and new strategic partnerships and relationships.
  • Direct the development of a marketing plan for CHA Learning products and services through various strategies including web, print, social media, partnerships, and conferences.
  • Program Administration and Support. Establish and enforce CHA Learning “Academic Policies and Procedures.” Function as “dean” and provost in the overall administration and management of programs, faculty, and student affairs.
  • Represent HealthCareCAN at high-level meetings, forums, and coalitions to promote the organization’s priorities.
  • Provide senior leadership support to the Association’s Advisory Committees and the Board of Directors as needed.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a related profession – health sciences, health/business administration (MHA, MBA), education (MEd) – or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in relevant learning/training roles which includes the development, delivery, evaluation and overall management of education programs, ideally in an online environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. Minimum five years of progressive management experience with three years at the senior management level.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Collaborative and inclusive leader who develops a positive team culture and builds high-performing, diverse, cross-functional leaders and teams rallied around a strategy.
  • Exceptional capacity for foresight, strategic thinking, and planning.
  • Exceptional communication skills (speaking, writing, reading) in English; bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
  • Excellent initiative and organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously; able to conceptualize a project, create vision, and communicate this to others.
  • Strong entrepreneurial and business development skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with staff, customers, students, education consultants, colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Strong capacity to foster and maintain external partnerships.
  • Experience with program development and implementation.
  • Capable of building consensus, trust, and effective teams in sometimes ambiguous and changing environments.
  • Ability to travel occasionally in support of CHA Learning and HealthCareCAN
