Overview

Brookfield Renewable, one of the world’s largest owners, operators, and developers of renewable power, seeks a high-impact Vice President, Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSS&E). This global role focuses on strengthening our approach to high-risk work, reducing related incidents, and driving HSS&E performance across complex, dynamic operations worldwide.

About the Role

Reporting to the SVP, Corporate HSS&E, the Vice President will shape and deliver our global HSS&E strategy with emphasis on high-risk activity management and serious incident prevention. The VP, HSS&E will collaborate across regions and functions to coordinate Brookfield Renewable’s global HSS&E program, embed a resilient safety culture, and lead performance improvement initiatives across all portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the SVP, Corporate HSS&E in implementing a global strategy focused on high-risk work management and prevention of serious incidents.
  • Promote safety leadership and engagement at all levels and foster a culture of accountability and care.
  • Coordinate initiatives undertaken by the global Corporate HSS&E team.
  • Track HSS&E onboarding actions for new portfolio companies / assets.
  • Coordinate HSS&E aspects of initial due diligence activities prior to new investments or acquisitions.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement of HSS&E performance across construction, operations, and support functions in multiple geographies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to develop HSS&E policies, processes, and procedures for the Brookfield Renewable HSS&E Management System.
  • Assist portfolio companies in defining strategies and action plans to implement recommendations from Gap Analyses and audits.
  • Lead or contribute to investigations into high-risk incidents and near misses, ensuring lessons learned are shared and sustained across all portfolio companies.
  • Leverage data, insights, and leading indicators to target HSS&E risks and drive program improvement.
  • Coordinate regular collection, compilation, and analysis of HSS&E metrics across all portfolio companies.
  • Support the development and enhancement of emergency response, crisis preparedness, and physical security practices.
  • Assist in the administration of contracts and IT systems used to manage the Corporate HSS&E program.
Knowledge and Experience Required
  • Minimum 10 years of HSS&E program management / leadership in high-risk industries (e.g., energy / utility, renewables, construction, infrastructure).
  • Extensive formal training in safety and experience with safety system concepts including due diligence and accident investigations.
  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline; related certification (NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, etc.) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing critical risks and serious incidents.
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills with ability to manage across cultures and regions.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching and communication skills (written and verbal) with a focus on safety training.
  • Knowledge of applicable HSS&E regulations and best practices and ability to advise management on their application.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Note: Offices remain central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires on-site presence for a minimum of 4 days per week to be most effective.
