About The Role

We are currently seeking an Agricultural Insurance Underwriter (junior, intermediate, or senior level depending on your experience) for our specialty lines team. You will be responsible for underwriting risks of varying complexities (depending on the level of the position) in agricultural insurance, to contribute to the profitability of the insurance portfolio. You will need to create sales opportunities by developing and maintaining good relationships with brokers. You will work in collaboration with our brokers to find solutions to protect farmers.

What You’ll Do Here

  • Accept, reject, endorse, renew, or cancel policies following Intact underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, and subject to authority level as specified by the underwriting manager.
  • Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with our broker partners by providing legendary service.
  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
  • Answer inquiries and make recommendations to brokers and underwriters through verbal and written correspondence.
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.
  • Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products.
  • Support and mentor team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact.

What You Bring To The Table

  • Graduate or diploma in insurance (an asset)
  • Work experience in a similar role in commercial insurance or specialty lines, preferably with an insurer and in agricultural insurance
  • Experience in agriculture is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of risk underwriting and pricing, industry contracts, insurance, and reinsurance markets
  • Holding the CIP designation or being close to obtaining it is considered an asset
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and is flexible to change
  • Strong analytical, negotiating skills, and business savvy
  • Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
  • Can make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide a recommended course of action, and take calculated risks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products with intermediate Excel proficiency
  • No Canadian work experience required; however, must be eligible to work in Canada.
