Qualifications

Responsibilities

Qualifications – Northern Ontario Hospital

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: 3 months with possibility of extension

Accommodations: Provided (shared)

Travel: Provided ($0.70/km)

Hours: Full-time hours

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

Minimum 2 years of Obstetrical nursing experience

Current BLS, NRP, and FHS certifications required

Ability to work in both Obstetrics and Medical‑Surgical units, including varied shifts as required by the facility

Responsibilities

Registered Nurses (RN) are required to adhere to the scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing comprehensive care to obstetrical patients from NST/clinic through all phases of Labour & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care up to discharge
  • Delivering safe, evidence‑based nursing care to patients in the Medical and Surgical departments
  • Conducting patient assessments, monitoring maternal and newborn status, and responding appropriately to changes in condition
  • Administering medications and treatments while monitoring patient responses
  • Collaborating with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to implement care plans
  • Maintaining accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory standards
  • Ensuring compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and healthcare regulations

Note: Duties may vary slightly based on facility needs and shift assignment, with specific guidance provided during site orientation.

Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant Canadian OB nursing experience (required)
  • Demonstrated experience caring for obstetrical patients across the full continuum of care
  • Experience working in Medical and Surgical units
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and adaptability, particularly in rural or northern settings
