Overview

Ottawa Student Transportation (OSTA) is seeking a highly organized, customer-focused, dedicated individual to join our team as a Transportation Assistant. We have one term position available to begin as soon as possible, ending August 31, 2026.

Position Details
  • Location: 1547 Merivale Road, Ottawa, ON
  • Work Schedule: This is an in-person position, performed at the OSTA office. It is 35 hours per week, 12 months per year. OSTA’s operational hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with staggered shifts to ensure adequate coverage. During peak periods, (e.g., the start of the school year), additional hours may be requested to maintain customer service levels.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Transportation Coordinator, the Transportation Assistant ( ) plays a key role in supporting the planning and administration of transportation routes and services for OSTA customers. This front-line position involves providing telephone support to parents/caregivers, schools, operators, and the general public, as well as offering administrative support for OSTA's operations and activities. Other related duties may be assigned by the Transportation Coordinator.

Qualifications
  • Secondary School diploma combined with a minimum of two (2) years of customer service or transportation experience.
  • Effective telephone etiquette; strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated tact, judgment, and diplomacy in a high energy environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to multi-task effectively.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in transportation software (e.g., BusPlanner), database management, spreadsheets, word processing, and email. Knowledge of provincial legislation related to student transportation and pertinent board and department policies is essential. Superior map reading skills and excellent knowledge of zone routes, traffic patterns, and volume are also required.
  • Willingness to work flexible and extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet work demands during peak periods.
