Job summary

A transportation services provider in the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is seeking a Community Transit Driver for a casual, on-call position in Terrace, BC. You'll be responsible for safely transporting passengers, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining vehicle protocols. The ideal candidate has a valid Class 2 license and a strong knowledge of the Kitimat area. This role offers flexible shifts and competitive hourly rates starting at $29.90/hr.

Qualifications

  • Ability to push/pull wheelchairs up and down a ramp (50lbs).
  • Previous taxi or shuttle driving experience is a bonus.
  • Class 2Q driver's license is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport passengers according to established policies.
  • Maintain clear radio contact with base.
  • Operate shuttle vehicles safely in all conditions.
  • Provide information and assistance to passengers.
  • Manage passenger behavior and solve problems.
  • Report vehicle maintenance issues.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle checks.

From daily commuters to passengers requiring custom Handydart service, you’ll provide safe transportation with care, professionalism, and exceptional customer service. What You’ll Do:
  • Safely transport passengers according to established policies.
  • Maintain clear radio contact with base using proper protocols.
  • Operate shuttle vehicles safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Provide information and courteous assistance to passengers.
  • Manage passenger behavior by effectively solving problems.
  • Report on vehicle maintenance issues, emergencies, and schedule concerns.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle checks.
  • Complete required paperwork and assist with driver coverage.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Valid Class 2 License with Code 15 (air endorsement)
  • Clear driver's abstract.
  • Clear vulnerable sector check.
  • Negative drug and alcohol test.
  • Strong knowledge of Kitimat and the surrounding area.
  • Physical ability to push/pull wheelchairs up and down a ramp or onto a lift (50lbs).
  • Organized, punctual, reliable, and possessing excellent driving skills.
  • Calm, upbeat, and helpful demeanor with strong communication skills.
Bonus Points if You Have:
  • Previous taxi or shuttle driving experience.
  • Class 2Q driver’s license.
What We Offer:
  • Transit Driver: $29.90/hour
  • HandyDART Driver: $28.60/hour
  • Training Rate: $25.74 – $26.91/hour
  • A supportive team environment.
  • Flexible casual, on-call basis with future opportunities for part-time and full-time roles.
  • Service will operate 7 days per week between the hours of 5:00 am to 10:15 pm. Shifts can be a mix of mornings, afternoons and weekends.
