PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Join our team as a Track Labourer and become an essential part of North America’s thriving railroad industry! In this dynamic, hands‑on role, you'll play a crucial part in ensuring safe and reliable train operations by maintaining, repairing, and constructing railway tracks within your assigned territory. Whether you’re seeking a fresh start or an exciting career change, no previous railroad experience is required—we provide comprehensive training and on‑the‑job support. This is a travelling position where your typical schedule will be 8 on/6 off, 7 on/7 off or 4 on/3 off. In Production you will travel across the territory, you will receive a rate premium, mileage, hotel accommodations, meal expenses, etc.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Replace and repair various track defects, install railway ties, and spikes
  • Utilize hand tools (shovels, axes, hammers, etc.)
  • Clear brush and debris, maintaining drainage, and ensuring safety along the tracks
  • Respond to emergencies and track outages
  • Operate company vehicles when needed
  • Stand, lift, squat for long periods and the ability to lift 50lbs or greater
  • Work shifts and start times are set on a weekly basis and may change daily if required; daily work shifts can start at any time, night or day
  • Work can be seasonal, and employees may be laid off at the end of the work season. Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next work season
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Foundational knowledge in agriculture, mechanics, and construction trades is preferred
  • Previous outdoor work experience in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow, etc.)
  • Ability to travel as member of the production team
  • Strong communication abilities, delivering clear and concise instructions, including over radio
  • Must be able to pass the required physical job tasks for the job position, written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, read and understand operating rules and regulations and other written or printed material in English

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing This is a safety‑sensitive position and a successful pre‑employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post‑hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
