Overview
Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Therapist is responsible for completing clinical assessments and providing therapy to individuals, families and groups. Uses independent judgment and discretion to provide individual, child, family and group therapy; counseling; crisis intervention; and advocacy services to children and families.
As a Leader In Trauma-informed Care, Children’s Institute provides counseling services to children, adolescents, transition-aged youth and parents in our intensive and non-intensive behavioral health and wellness programs.
Intensive Programs
Intensive - CII offers several intensive behavioral health programs for children/youth between ages 0 to 21 with Medi-Cal who exhibit a broad range of risky behaviors. We provide 24/7 crisis support, individual/family counseling and therapy, assistance with community resources (housing and physical health care), psychiatric services and medication support. Services are offered in the home, school, telehealth and/or office.
- Full Service Partnership (FSP) – an intensive behavioral health program that supports children/youth engaged in risky behaviors and their families.
- Intensive Field Clinical Capable Services (IFCCS) – an intensive program that supports children/youth and their families involved with the child welfare system and experiencing multiple home placement changes.
- Wraparound – an intensive program that supports children/youth and their families involved with the child welfare system or probation.
Non-Intensive Programs
Non-Intensive - CII also offers mental health services for young children ages 0-5 and school-aged children. Each family receives personalized care and works with a dedicated staff member to select services that best meet the caregiver and child’s health and happiness.
- Birth to 5 – mental health services for families with babies and young children (up to 5 years old); includes information on development, activities to build parent-child relationships at home/school/office, and connecting caregivers to educational resources through programs or community partners.
- School-Aged – supports emotional wellness of school-aged children and adolescents; provides short-term counseling in the home, school, CII site, or via telemedicine as appropriate. Clients are Medi-Cal recipients in LA Metro or South Los Angeles with behaviors affecting well-being.
Additional Programs
CIFFTA (Culturally Informed and Flexible Family-Based Treatment for Adolescents) – outpatient treatment for youth 11-18 designed to address conduct problems, depression, school failure, family conflict, delinquency, drug use and/or problematic sexual behavior; strengthens protective factors through family and individual treatment and psycho-educational modules. Focused on SPAs 4, 6 and 8, available to any adolescent and family in Los Angeles County.
Duties
Summary Under supervision, the Therapist completes clinical assessments and provides therapy to individuals, families and groups; uses independent judgment to provide therapy, counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy services.

- Gather information, assess needs and provide direct clinical and related therapeutic services, emphasizing evidence-based practices (EBPs), to clients and/or their families.
- Maintain case notes and prepare periodic reports as required.
- Meet and/or exceed client service delivery goals.
- Provide ongoing clinical assessment and treatment planning for assigned clients.
- Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide consultation to representatives of other agencies by delivering regular reports as needed.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision.
Additional Duties
- Develop and maintain knowledge of service standards and policies as stipulated by contract, licensing, and/or other governing bodies.
- Continuously increase professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, networking, benchmarking practices, and in-service programs.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education, Experience & Other Qualifications
- 2 years of therapeutic experience.
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work required.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and state-required auto insurance or reliable transportation as needed.
- Required to travel extensively (>50% of the time).
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential information and protect patient privacy (PHI).
- Participates in performance quality improvement activities; culturally sensitive to the service population.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; punctual and dependable attendance.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
- For Senior Therapist: Current BBS registration and current licensure with BBS.
- For Therapist: Current BBS registration.
Computer Skills
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows-based programs (Word, Excel, Email).
- Experience with database software and electronic health records (EHR).
Vision & Noise
- No special vision requirements.

Compensation
$73,601.00 – $85,469.00 USD. California law requires the stated pay range in the posting; actual compensation will be determined based on permissible factors. New hires start at the range point to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth.
