Job summary

A leading telecommunications company in Montreal is seeking Field Services technicians to maintain and improve network operations. You will be responsible for provisioning, troubleshooting, and ensuring network availability while working outdoors in various conditions. Ideal candidates possess a college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, are fluent in French, and hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work autonomously. A flexible schedule may be necessary.

Name and description of hiring department:

The Field Operations team in Bell Canada is responsible for maintaining the outside cable network providing voice and data services to customers in the consumer Bell Business markets.

Main Job Duties / Accountabilities include:
  • Provision and maintain of the network
  • Provide support in the event of a network outage, to minimize cycle time, and ensure all services are available to our customers
  • Complete all assurance and routines to ensure the network is working at optimum levels
  • Plan, coordinate, and ensure all activities related to daily work and projects are completed following company practices and processes. (i.e. change management rules, etc.)
  • Perform tasks associated with the provisioning, service assurance, maintenance and project coordination with technologies that include transport, broadband, IP, switching, power and frame in CO’s huts, CEV’s, WICs, OPI, etc.
  • Partner with various internal and external parties (“X”NOC, PCMC, BDA, vendors, etc.)
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Prerequisite:
  • Candidates who are part of the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have;
    • A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
  • Candidates from outside the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have;
    • A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience
    • A minimum of a high school diploma
  • Fluent in French
  • Hold a valid driver’s license - Class 5
  • Possess good manual dexterity and able to work with different hand tools
  • Capable to lift and carry heavy weight
  • Capable to climb telephone poles and/or climb and carry ladders
  • Capable to climb and carry step ladders
  • Capable to kneel and bend and work in areas with restricted movement
  • Capable of differentiating coloured wires (colour code)
  • Capable to safely execute all functions/aspects of the job and meet all safety requirements associated with the work equipment
Essential Qualifications / Skills:
  • Intermediate knowledge of the outside plant
  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Transport Network (DS0/DS1/DS3)
  • Intermediate knowledge of the broadband network
  • Intermediate knowledge of the IP network
  • Intermediate knowledge of switching equipment in particular DMS
  • Intermediate knowledge of Central Office power requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of electricity and DC power plants
  • Basic knowledge regarding the use and maintenance of permanent stand‑by generators
  • Intermediate knowledge regarding the use and maintenance of portable generators
  • Intermediate knowledge of Outside Plant Modules (Remotes)

This is a 24/7 operation. The candidate must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be called upon to work variable schedules according to business needs (schedules within a given day are prepared by the Company with due consideration to seniority), to participate in a standby program and work overtime as needed. Available and flexible to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays as needed.

Note that many working conditions are subject to terms outlined in the collective agreement.

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
