Job description
Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to join our multi-year automation program in the energy sector. This role bridges technical and business requirements for system enhancement projects encompassing Data/AI initiatives, Operational Technology implementations, Automation/Control system standardization, and Digital enablement. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills with both technical expertise and business acumen, enabling effective communication between technical teams and business stakeholders while translating complex requirements into functional specifications aligned with business objectives for field operations technology systems.

Essential Responsibilities (Must Have):
  • Exceptional communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and track requirements in collaboration with Engineering & Reliability stakeholders.
  • Create comprehensive functional specifications and technical deliverable documentation in collaboration with the Client Technical Lead and System Integrators to guide system design for SCADA, PLC, and HMI implementations.
  • Complete design/architectural documentation to support operations data collection initiatives.
  • Review and provide feedback on Technical Specifications to ensure quality, completeness, and alignment with data integrity objectives.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and integration points across projects, particularly for field sites, RTUs, and pipeline monitoring systems.
  • Develop test plans and scripts with user stories and acceptance criteria for system testing and client acceptance.
  • Support and guide Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), field network testing (dual polling), and other QA activities.
  • Support HMI interface development by providing feedback on screen standardization (both fixed screens and remote login capabilities).
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for process automation and data engineering initiatives.
  • Conduct post-implementation QA, documenting feedback and issues for continuous improvement.
Operational Technology Knowledge Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of SCADA systems architecture and implementation.
  • Experience with HMI (Human Machine Interface) design principles and standardization, including platforms like Aveva and Ignition.
  • Knowledge of PLC deployments and their integration with higher-level systems.
  • Familiarity with Historian systems for operational data collection and analysis.
  • Experience with RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) and field instrumentation.
  • Understanding of industrial data flows, particularly in pipeline monitoring contexts.
  • Working knowledge of asset management systems, SQL, Canary, Ignition, Asset Intellect, and other IT/OT systems.
  • Experience with operational data quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with process automation and data engineering implementations.
Desired Skills (Great to Have):
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis using standard frameworks (ROI, NPV, IRR).
  • Develop business cases to justify and rationalize automation changes.
  • Support data management initiatives ensuring compliance with client policies.
  • Standardize reporting and analytical frameworks within applications.
  • Monitor design activities to ensure compliance with functional requirements.
  • Assess network performance between field sites and central monitoring systems.
  • Experience with process automation and data engineering implementations.
Additional Capabilities (Nice to Have):
  • Review and provide feedback on technical aspects of Project Execution Plans.
  • Contribute to project risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Support training plan development for client stakeholders on new OT systems.
  • Experience with the energy sector, particularly oil and gas pipeline and midstream operations.
  • Strong understanding of analytical tools and methodologies with proven experience creating business and functional specifications.
  • Experience in software design and implementation for operational environments.
  • Understanding of Reliability Engineering and Maintenance processes.
