What you’ll do here:
  • Be the technical leader that helps define data science problems and develop innovative solutions using machine learning and advanced statistics.
  • Ensure teams build AI systems aligned with business goals and quality expectations with sustainability in mind and by following best practices and internal policies.
  • Help achieve long‑term business goals by identifying and implementing solutions to problems having a lot of uncertainty with the highest scientific rigour.
  • Influence the lab’s technical direction with recommendations based on scientific and business findings.
  • Contribute to the AI roadmaps of your business line by identifying opportunities in the existing processes and by providing innovative solutions. Rally the multiple stakeholders to this vision.
  • Coach and mentor senior data scientists and act as a technical reference for management.
  • Review machine learning solutions and assess readiness for production deployment.
  • Help the teams maintain a high scientific level by monitoring the application of data science standards of practice and participate in their evolution.
What you bring to the table:
  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant discipline (such as, but not restricted to: mathematics, computer science, economics, statistics, physics), or any combination of equivalent education and experience, such as a good track record in actuarial sciences (e.g. FCAS).
  • A very strong business acumen with prior experience of working with multiple business units in large organizations.
  • Expert‑level understanding or roughly 8 years of experience, in at least one of those fields of advanced analytics, modeling or machine learning: rating, predictive modeling, time series forecasting computer vision, natural language processing including GenAI, or any other relevant to insurance AI application domain.
  • Strong communication, time management, great teamworking and organization skills. Demonstrated ability to influence peers across teams.
  • Proven track record of complex project deliveries with a very high level of autonomy.
  • The position requires expertise in programming, preferably in Python and its popular libraries/frameworks such as scikit‑learn, xgboost, pytorch, etc. Candidates must either show their acquired skills or demonstrate their ability to acquire it.
  • Able to perform advanced data analysis using cloud data analytics platforms like Databricks or AWS SageMaker is an asset. More broadly, knowledge of cloud technologies like AWS and hands on experience building solutions that integrates its services is a plus.
  • Bilingualism (French‑English), For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English‑speaking colleagues across the country.
