Introduction

The Department of Families is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a term Supports Intensity Scale (SIS) Facilitator position located in Brandon.

Duties

Reporting to the Supports Intensity Scale Program Manager, this is a social services position within the Community Service Delivery Division of the Department of Families. The incumbent in this position is responsible for conducting a multi‑dimensional, comprehensive support needs assessment of Community Living Disability Service clients to inform the completion of the Supports Intensity Scale (SIS).

The incumbent is expected to work as a member of an established service delivery team and use sound independent judgment. The incumbent uses the professional application of social work theory and methods to conduct assessments with clients, with cognitive, medical, behavioral and communication challenges, and their network of supports. These assessments will inform intervention and funding strategies for individuals, their families and care providers. The incumbent uses a range of interviewing and assessment skills to ensure the standardized application of SIS developed by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD).

Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in the social services field (BSW preferred).
  • Experience working with adults who have an intellectual disability and their support network and a thorough understanding of the challenges presented to them.
  • Case management experience in an integrated services environment that includes brief counseling, conducting assessments, service planning and coordination, resource development and follow‑up.
  • Strong understanding and/or experience in Support Needs Scale assessments for individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills (interacts sensitively, respectfully and non‑judgmental manner).
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Effective written communication skills including the ability to produce clear and concise formal documents.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of the Community Living disability Services program.
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in French (considered an asset but not required).
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must have a valid Full Class 5 Manitoba driver's licence, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel within the Province of Manitoba for government business.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays when required.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check.
