A governmental service in Campbell River seeks a Wildfire Assistant to efficiently respond to wildfires, manage logistics, and ensure safety for citizens and responders. This role requires a technical diploma or equivalent experience, plus supervisory skills. The position is on-site, offering a unique opportunity for career development in wildfire management.
The BC Wildfire Service’s North Island Fire Zone is an Initial Attack Base. It is a close-knit zone with zone officers, 4 IA crews in Campbell River and 1 IA crew in Bella Coola. The Wildfire Assistant plays a critical role in executing fire suppression and hazard plans, ensuring crews are effectively mobilized in incident response. The 14 Acre fire base is located in Campbell River, which is between Vancouver Island's mountains and the Discovery Islands. Providing access to Hiking, Fishing and wildlife.
The Role
As a Wildfire Assistant, your focus is to provide an effective and efficient response to wildfires through preparation, planning, and logistics management. You'll play a vital part in keeping both citizens and responders safe, by balancing priorities and adapting to the fast-paced needs of the team. There are variety in the tasks, and you’ll have opportunities for continued development and learning. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into behind-the-scenes operations helping you develop a broader understanding of wildfire response, work towards higher-level certifications and branch out into different aspects of what BCWS has to offer.

This is a temporary opportunity (Auxiliary) until November 1, 2025 with possibility of recall on a yearly basis.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
