A regional First Nation organization is seeking a Status Card Intake Clerk to provide clerical and administrative support for First Nation citizens in southern Manitoba. Job description

SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 32 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 87,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process.

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Navigation Services Manager, the Status Card Intake Clerk will assist the Status Card team with a wide range of clerical and administrative support by assisting First Nation citizens in southern Manitoba to renew or replace their status cards, accepting new Status registration applications, and assisting those who are not able to easily visit their home communities or an Indigenous Services Canada office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Organizes and schedules appointments for clients seeking navigation support
  • Organizes and manages Status Card clinics in First Nation communities
  • Responds to public enquiries in a timely manner
  • Provides guidance on appropriate forms of identification
  • Assists in reviewing applications for completion and accuracy according to ISC’s application process
  • Takes photos using the SCIS photo app for submission to ISC
  • Digitally signs as guarantor and Trusted Source
  • Verifies existing identification or provides guidance on where and how to obtain appropriate identification where required
  • Submits completed applications
  • Assists in compiling data for reporting purposes
  • Maintains manual and computerized information filing systems
  • Adheres to privacy legislation and policies for storing personal information
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of high school diploma or GED is required. A certificate or diploma in an administrative field would be an asset
  • One – two years’ experience in an office environment with knowledge of office management systems and procedures
  • Experience working with First Nations peoples and communities
  • Team player who can work collaboratively with a variety of people within complex systems
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work productively with colleagues, supervisors, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working with the public in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to independently manage a wide range of tasks, often within short timelines, with precision and high attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when developing and handling sensitive information
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clear, concise documents and reports for a variety of audiences
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota languages is an asset
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Current and satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Must have a valid class 5 MB driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle as travel will be required on a regular basis, including some instances of overnight stays

WAGE RANGE: $50,000 – $55,000 Annually
