WestJet is hiring a Senior Accountant – Corporate who will be responsible for various aspects of Executive compensation accounting and payroll reporting. As a senior member of the Corporate Accounting team, the Senior Accountant will also be responsible for mentoring team members and performing review functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete WestJet month‑end processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and actuals variance analysis over the following accounting areas:
    • Executive compensation STIP bonus calculation
    • Stock based compensation – LTIP accounting and financial disclosures
    • Board of Director compensation – including deferred share unit plan
    • Other areas of executive compensation including special incentive and severance accounting
    • Other areas of payroll accounting as needed including vacation accounting
  • Review and support over the Corporate Accountant – payroll’s month‑end deliverables including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis
  • Identify opportunities for processes enhancements to evolve month‑end deliverables alongside technology and system changes including supporting cross‑functional HR projects to automate and optimize our payroll systems
  • Develop and maintain C‑SOx and process documentation over executive compensation and payroll accounting
  • Partner closely with Technical Accounting and the Compensation team to adapt accounting for changes to the executive comp program
  • Be an active member of the Finance team; complete ad‑hoc reporting requests and be flexible in completing any task including supporting FP&A, internal and external audit.

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of a professional accounting designation
  • Minimum 5‑7 years’ experience in an accounting role with progressive levels of responsibility involving the application of technical accounting guidance
  • Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight timelines in a fast paced and evolving environment
  • Excellent inter‑team and business partner communication skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Positive attitude and collaborative approach to problem solving and work tasks in general
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Advanced excel proficiency
