Job description

Job Description

This position offers a full-time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff for work in a specific Island Health specialty department. After completing the training, staff members will be placed into a regular full-time rotation line within the specialty department for which they have been trained.

Note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the Island Health specialty department. Staff may transfer between departments within that specialty. In alignment with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety are priorities and shared responsibilities. Continuous quality and safety improvements are integral to this role.

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Responsible for planning and providing direct nursing care to patients/residents in hospital or community settings, in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, with recent medical and/or surgical experience. Upon completion of this specialty training, staff will transition into a regular position within the specialty department.

The hours of work, including days off and work area, may vary based on operational needs, the Collective Agreement, and applicable statutes.
