Overview

Join our dedicated national strategic communications team as an External Communications Specialist! Reporting to the Manager External Communications this 6-month contract role supports external communications initiatives to advance Circular Materials corporate strategy. This role will be focused on delivering concise and compelling communications including key messages media statements and releases presentation decks web articles corporate social media content and content for Circular Materials podcast. As the External Communications Specialist you will help support Circular Materials corporate brand ensuring that the organization's story reaches diverse audiences and key stakeholders.

This is a contract position requiring an Incorporated number and requires residency in Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to content planning and creation for Circular Materials CEO podcast corporate social media platforms (LinkedIn and X) and website news articles.
  • Support national media relations tasks including:
  • Drafting news releases and media statements.
  • Developing briefing notes and FAQs for key spokespeople.
  • Supporting media briefings and backgrounders.
  • Managing and coordinating media interviews and briefings.
  • Proactive media monitoring using Meltwater and other tools.
  • Support development of presentations decks for external events for industry stakeholders.
  • Create email communications including newsletters and announcements.
  • Develop and/or edit graphics, video clips and written content for external channels.
  • Edit and copy write various communications products.
  • Other administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications

Education

  • Post secondary education/Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experiences may be considered.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of related and progressive job experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with corporate communications tools and protocols including media relations, crisis communications, executive communications and content development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective communications, public affairs, marketing, stakeholder relations and reputation management practices.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and the ability to communicate and apply AI technologies effectively within a business context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A positive attitude and a desire to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint with ability to create impactful visually appealing presentations decks.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (primarily Canva).
  • Proficiency in email/digital marketing tools (primarily Constant Contact) and social media platforms (primarily LinkedIn and X).
  • Proficiency in media monitoring/analysis software (primarily Meltwater).
  • Ability to read and write Canadian French considered a plus.
Working Conditions
  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week remotely from a Canadian home office environment.
Pay Transparency

Expected Compensation:

  • A contractor rate in the range of $30 to $38 per hour.
  • The wage range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential earnings range for this actual wage offered will be determined within the range and will depend on factors such as the candidate's unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
