Job summary

A local government organization is looking for a Special Events Coordinator for a temporary role up to 18 months. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering special events, working with volunteers, and coordinating community events in Kenora. Qualified applicants should have a Diploma in a related field, possess strong organizational and customer service skills, and be proficient in MS Office and social media. Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of tourism or event planning work experience.
  • Minimum of one year of Supervisory experience.
  • Works well independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Administer special events in the City of Kenora.
  • Work with volunteer organizations to develop and promote events.
  • Maintain the event booking system for special events.
  • Assist in developing Commission approved events.

Special Events Coordinator (Temporary up to 18 Months)

City of Kenora – Economic Development & Tourism – Hours of work: In accordance with Collective Agreement – Branch: Tourism – Classification: Special Events Coordinator – Benefits: In accordant with Collective Agreement – Salary: $33.23/hr

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Must have a two (2) year Diploma in Communications, Event Planning, Recreation or related field
  • A minimum of two years of tourism or event planning work experience in a related position
  • A minimum of one (1) year Supervisory experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years' work related computer experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years computer related experience in a work environment including working knowledge of Windows, MS Office and social media
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Outgoing and energetic personality
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and work with constant interruptions and workload changes
  • Works well under deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work with the public, business community and volunteer organizations
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s license

  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs on occasion and to work extensive hours standing
Duties
  • To administer special events in the City of Kenora
  • To work with volunteer organizations and volunteers to develop and promote new events in the City of Kenora
  • To program the Tent on the Harbour front on year round basis
  • Work with community events organizers to coordinate and plan their events on the Kenora Harbour front including but not limited to: attending planning committee meetings, assisting with committee and administrative tasks, identifying and assisting with funding opportunities, providing some logistical support
  • Maintaining the event booking system and facilitating the booking of all special events on the Harbour front including providing quote and invoice information
  • Assist the Tourism development Officer in the development of Commission approved events. Proposes new events for approval by the TDO and Commission
