Job description
Overview

Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) Test Engineer

Date: Sep 17, 2025

Location: Winnipeg, MB, CA

Brand: PTx

Workplace Type: Onsite

Solutions for Every Season - We engineer and deliver precision ag hardware, software, and cloud-based platforms that connect every corner of the farm.

We are seeking a motivated Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) Test Engineer for a unique opportunity to contribute to the verification and validation of autonomous and highly automated machines for agricultural applications. In this role, you will leverage our advanced simulation environment to conduct mission and perception simulation regression testing.

The successful candidate will design, execute, and analyze tests that simulate real-world agricultural scenarios, validating system behaviors in a controlled virtual setting. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and capable of independently determining testing priorities to mitigate risks and enhance system autonomy.

Your Impact

Design and implement software-in-the-loop tests using our simulation platform to evaluate mission planning, perception algorithms, and overall system integration for autonomous agricultural machinery.

Perform regression testing on perception simulations (e.g., sensor data processing, object detection, and environmental modeling) and mission simulations (e.g., path planning, obstacle detection, and task execution in farm environments).

Analyze test results to identify defects, performance bottlenecks, or unexpected behaviors, and collaborate with development teams to recommend fixes or improvements. Make informed decisions on testing scope, including selecting scenarios, edge cases, and parameters based on system requirements, risk assessments, and agricultural domain knowledge (e.g., varying terrain, weather conditions, crop types).

Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks to streamline regression testing processes and ensure repeatability. Document test plans, procedures, and outcomes to support compliance, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stay updated on advancements in simulation technologies and autonomous systems to refine testing methodologies. Communicate and collaborate effectively with our software development and field-testing teams to ensure system functionality before reaching machines in the field.

Your Experience and qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering fields with 2+ years of experience in verification and validation, preferably in agricultural or automotive domains with basic knowledge on farming practices and technologies.

Skilled in simulation tools (Gazebo, Isaac Sim), programming (Python/C++), Linux, ROS, embedded systems, and communication protocols like CAN and Ethernet.

Knowledgeable in autonomous systems, robotics, sensor technologies (LIDAR, radar, GPS), and agricultural machinery or practices.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, quick learner, independent problem-solver, and open to occasional travel for field validation.

Nifty to have: Experience in creating test plans, using hardware testing tools, and familiar with safety standards such as ISO 25119, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508
