Overview

Site Superintendent – Surface & Baseworks

Location: Whitehorse, Yukon

Castle Rock Enterprises has been a market leader in underground utilities (sewer, water, electrical), site preparation, quarry services, land remediation and trucking for over 25 years. Founded in 1995, the company was purchased by Dakwakada Capital Investments (DCI) in 2010, which maintains its family-business culture. DCI is a privately owned investment firm in Whitehorse, Yukon that holds and manages most investment and business assets of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN).

We are recruiting for the 2025 season (May through October). Camp, hotel or Airbnb accommodations will be provided unless you prefer to secure your own private accommodation for the season. LOA based on accommodations. Opportunity to work and live in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Project Manager and General Superintendent, the Surface and Baseworks Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day operations at their project site(s). The Site Superintendent manages resource allocation, equipment and subcontractors, and monitors work to ensure compliance with contract specifications and Castle Rock standards. The main objective is to deliver work safely, on time, within budget and to the expected level of quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct surface and baseworks projects in accordance with contract documents and Castle Rock procedures
  • Oversee execution of sub-cuts, importing and placing structural gravel
  • Roadbuilding - prepare for and coordinate with concrete curb and asphalt contractors
  • Ensure safety compliance by all workers, including subcontractors
  • Complete daily journals, Health and Safety documentation and maintenance records as required (daily, weekly, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction crews, owned equipment, rented equipment, material supply and subcontractors
  • Plan and implement construction schedules with Project Manager and confirm manpower, equipment and subcontractor availability
Requirements
  • 5 - 10 years of civil / infrastructure construction site supervision, preferably in road building, earthworks and/or sewer and water construction
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is an asset
  • Proficient in written and verbal English with the ability to handle moderately complex technical correspondence and provide clear direction to project teams
  • Proven leader able to engage and motivate a team to deliver quality work
  • Ability to review and interpret contracts and identify additional work outside of project scope
  • Adept at multi-tasking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
