Job summary

A leading logistics company in Metro Vancouver is seeking individuals for an interview position responsible for freight handling, transportation within facilities, and adherence to safety procedures. Candidates must have a high school diploma and a Class 5 license. This role includes loading/unloading freight and performing vehicle maintenance as necessary. The ideal candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to lift heavy packages. You will be required to work varying shifts based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid, fully unrestricted Class 5 / Class G license and have a good driving record.
  • Some knowledge of FedEx Express Canada operations and Canadian customs regulations is an asset.
  • Ability to successfully complete all basic and recurrency training.

Job description

This is an interview position.

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload freight, scan, and sort freight within the facility.
  • Transport freight within and between facilities.
  • Perform shuttle functions using a non-articulated vehicle.
  • Load and unload company vehicles and containers.
  • Audit the size and weight of packages.
  • Separate packages by service type and destination, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Scan packages using computerized tracking equipment.
  • Ensure the use of safety procedures in handling packages.
  • Ensure proper security of FedEx Canada and customer property such as packages, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Clean, wash, and perform minor maintenance on vehicles as necessary.
  • Conform to regulations established by local airport authorities.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently, complying with all government regulations and company procedures.
  • Pick up and make deliveries on an emergency basis; not to exceed 10% of the time.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • In the province of Quebec, be bilingual (French and English).
  • When required to carry out temperature control functions: perform air temperature control and carrier temperature control unit troubleshooting on the road if necessary, adhering to safety best practices.
  • Comply with vehicle pre and post inspection, trip inspection, and temperature control unit inspection regulations and guidelines at all times.
  • Adhere to vehicle operating procedures during the delivery cycle to conserve cargo temperature and protect the freight (e.g., process for entering/exiting the cargo area).

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs or maneuver any package weighing up to 150 lbs with appropriate equipment or assistance from another person.

  • Must complete and achieve minimum thresholds on mandatory testing and training; maintain annual accreditations where applicable.
  • Work varying shifts based on business needs.
