Senior Underwriting Specialist - Senior Complex Accounts

Location: Toronto (Hybrid opportunity – 2 days in office). Downtown Toronto.

Description

Senior Underwriting Specialist to support a large complex portfolio. You will lead complex risk assessments, develop customized underwriting strategies, and serve as a trusted advisor to key clients and internal stakeholders. Your industry knowledge and analytical acumen will help shape underwriting decisions that align with business goals and client needs.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite large, complex, or unique risks within strategic accounts.
  • Collaborate with account managers, actuaries, and legal teams to structure innovative solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal partners.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to underwriting guidelines.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives, including product development and process improvement.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the team.
Qualifications
  • University degree; advanced insurance-related certifications like CIP or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience, with a focus on large or strategic accounts.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, risk modeling, and data analysis platforms.
  • High ethical standards, adherence to industry regulations, and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Strong negotiation skills, adaptability to changing market conditions and underwriting guidelines, and ability to handle multiple underwriting files simultaneously.
