Job description

Ausenco is a fast-growing company with big ideas. We redefine what’s possible in some of the world’s most complex projects and toughest environments. Delivering innovative, value-add consulting, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions is what we do. From 21 offices in 9 countries, with projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we create sustainable outcomes for our people, clients and communities.

We are looking for a talented Senior Specialist in Carbon Management to join our Sustainability team. The role ensures climate change and sustainability considerations are embedded into engineering and project design processes.

This role focuses on integrating climate-adjusted site conditions, sustainability metrics, GHG management, and offset protocols into feasibility studies, design, and operational stages to support risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and client value creation. The role acts as a bridge between technical teams, risk management processes (HAZID/HAZOP), sustainability services, and supporting regulatory frameworks such as TCFD, ISO 14064, and the Canadian OBPS.

About The Role
  • Lead ISO 14064‑compliant GHG inventories for operational facilities, tailored to client needs.
  • Support clients in reporting BC OBPS‑covered facilities, ensuring annual emissions measurement, reporting, and assist in third‑party verification compliance.
  • Provide guidance to clients on emission reduction strategies and identify opportunities for improving operational efficiency.
  • Develop audit‑ready processes and reporting systems in coordination with internal teams.
  • Support energy trade‑off studies embedded in feasibility studies, considering GHG impacts, CAPEX, and OPEX.
  • Conduct stand‑alone studies or decarbonization/climate action plan components to support energy transition decisions.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to evaluate alternative energy sources and renewable technologies.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in carbon finance, emission reduction, and energy transition.
  • Collaborate to expand Carbon Finance initiatives and prepare Offset Protocols under local regulations.
  • Integrate Climate Change‑Adjusted Site Conditions into feasibility studies and Risk Management processes.
  • Integrate Sustainability Metrics into feasibility studies and participate in GHG estimation for Environmental Assessments.
About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Mining, Mechanical), Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master’s degree preferred, particularly in Sustainability Management, Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Energy Systems, or similar fields.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in mining, oil & gas sectors, ensuring familiarity with sector‑specific regulations, operational contexts, and environmental risk profiles.
  • Expertise in GHG accounting and carbon regulation, including ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, and Canadian/BC OBPS reporting requirements.
  • Training or certifications in GHG accounting, carbon markets, or climate risk (e.g., ISO 14064, CSA/ANSI Verification, TCFD) are strong assets.
  • Coursework or postgraduate training in energy modeling, LCA, climate adaptation, or environmental assessments is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills to support decarbonization studies, energy trade‑off evaluations, emissions modeling, and climate‑adjusted design inputs.
  • Experience with carbon markets and offset protocols, including developing or applying offset methodologies and preparing GHG Reduction Reports.
  • International project experience, especially in mining, infrastructure, or emissions reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Working proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
