Job summary

A leading shipbuilding company in Canada is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee complex projects critical to defense procurement. In this role, you will ensure that project scopes are effectively managed from planning through delivery. The ideal candidate should have over 10 years of experience in shipbuilding or related sectors, a Bachelor's degree, and formal project management certification. This position requires a full-time, in-office presence and offers an opportunity to contribute to significant naval projects.

Job description
JOB DESCRIPTION

Join a highly collaborative team driving some of the most complex and meaningful work in our program. As a Senior Project Manager, reporting to the Compliance Manager, Implementation & Integration, you will own a defined scope of work—whether a contract task or another discrete element tied directly to program deliverables. In this role, you'll be the champion for ensuring that your assigned scope is well‑planned, performance‑managed, and successfully delivered. You will work closely with Compliance Control Account Managers and functional leads to keep projects on track, respond to change, and support the organization in meeting critical customer requirements. Project Managers are essential to keeping work aligned with contract requirements and ensuring government‑funded activity is executed efficiently, effectively, and without negative downstream impact. Your leadership directly contributes to meeting customer expectations on time and within budget-strengthening program delivery and overall organizational performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the functional integration of key Management Plans and other deliverables based on input and direction from the function Managers and the Compliance Director. Develop the maturity of high‑level Program Management processes to ensure a cohesive management structure to drive RCD compliance requirements to execution.
  • Ensure integration and alignment of the Management Plans with other key management plans to ensure the Program is delivering value to the Customer in an efficient and cohesive manner.
  • Develop the integration of inter functions Management processes with the high‑level processes of the other RCD Functional Departments to ensure a cohesive management structure is driving RCD Program execution.
  • Review and development of Compliance function performance reports, metrics and dashboards, including identification and coordination of JDI IT resources to deliver the data.
  • Lead on communication and engagements with internal and external stakeholders where it applies to key Management Plans and high‑level Program Processes.
  • Support the Compliance Managers with ad‑hoc initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in shipbuilding, warship operations, government, or defense programs is preferred.
  • Formal Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) required.
  • Continuous improvement certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, stakeholder management, government processes, and complex program delivery.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full‑time, in‑office presence.
