Job description

Independent renewable energy producer with an extensive and growing portfolio of assets in Canada, the United States, France, and Chile is seeking a Senior Pre-Construction Manager to join their growing team. Location is flexible; near an office such as Vancouver or Quebec is a bonus. Remote-in-Canada options are available for the right candidate.

The Senior Pre-Construction Manager is responsible for leading pre-construction efforts from early to advanced development stages, working closely with development, engineering, and major contract teams to ensure project readiness and optimization prior to initiating construction activities. The corporation develops, acquires, owns, and operates hydroelectric facilities, wind farms, solar farms, and energy storage facilities. Salary ranges from $150,000 to $190,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to assist our client with this full-time, permanent role.

Your day-to-day as Senior Pre-Construction Manager:
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate construction and engineering activities during various development stages.
  • Develop construction and operations cost estimates in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineering, construction project managers, commercial, and major contract teams.
  • Assess class estimates based on project development stages and provide guidance accordingly.
  • Maintain a pre-construction risk registry and apply contingencies to estimates.
  • Implement project governance mechanisms such as cost control tools, schedules, risk matrices, and project execution plans.
  • Participate in industry networking events to stay informed about government incentives and industry trends.
  • Coordinate handover activities from development to construction and from construction to operation stages.
  • Collaborate with the major contract team to assess and implement construction strategies tailored to each project.
  • Participate in project portfolio acquisition processes and coordinate due diligence efforts related to construction.
  • Ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary project team, especially between development, construction, engineering, and operations.
Skills & Requirements of Senior Pre-Construction Manager:
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Understanding of renewable energy project development.
  • Service-oriented with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-starter and energetic.
  • Bilingual in French and English (written and spoken); Spanish is an asset.
  • Experience in development and/or construction of wind and solar projects in the US and/or Canada.
  • Contract negotiation experience is an asset.
  • Storage project experience is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
  • Specialization in wind and solar energy is an asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Microsoft Project, Visio, and Excel.
