Mechanical Designer / Project Manager
Mechanical – Vaughan, Ontario (Hybrid)
About The Role
The Mechanical Designer / Project Manager role is based in the GTA office. You are a trained engineer, passionate about improving existing mechanical building services. You are motivated when tackling challenging situations but are also equally engaged in focusing on project-related tasks and efficiently executing detailed designs using AutoCAD. Your friendly but direct communication skills allow you to ask the tough questions when required, enabling you to thrive in a team-based environment. Your Role
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver assigned projects
- Design building systems following municipal / provincial building codes and applicable standards
- Develop layouts and designs of HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, drainage, and specialized plumbing systems (e.g., natural gas, fuel oil, medical gas)
- Coordinate mechanical system layouts with structural, architectural, and electrical components
- Design layouts for mechanical rooms, including boiler, chiller, cooling tower, and air-handling systems
- Prepare calculations for sizing ductwork, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage systems, and incorporate them into drawings
- Develop equipment schedules and coordinate with consultants for review
- Liaise with consultants, suppliers, and manufacturers for design support, equipment selection, and project requirements
- Conduct site visits, review shop drawings, and support construction administration (change notices, site instructions, etc.)
- Ensure CAD standards are followed while producing mechanical building systems designs
Requirements
What You’ll Bring
- 3–5 years of direct industry experience in mechanical building services (retrofit experience preferred)
- Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Building Services or Mechanical Engineering
- P.Eng designation in Ontario preferred
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Familiarity with the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, and CSA / ULC standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office applications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a team setting
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail
